The test is focused to measure the candidate's knowledge in accordance to the pre established standards than in response to other candidates. The NMTA is an integrated and comprehensive testing program that covers different facets of testing profession. T he New Mexico Teacher Assessments program includes the following tests:
New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Basic Skills
New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency
New Mexico Content Knowledge Assessments
To appear for the test the candidate must posses the bachelor's degree and he must have completed specified credit points. These requirements include 12 semester hours in English, history or science, and six semester hours in math, economics, government or fine arts. Coursework also requires you to fulfill mandatory student teaching requirements. Student teaching requirements include 24 to 36 semester hours in any one teaching area from among math, social studies, reading and language arts and six hours for those who have entered a college or university.
